Responsibilities

This position includes but is not limited to:

  • Welcoming Visitors: A school receptionist is responsible for welcoming visitors to the school and creating a positive first impression. They greet guests, ascertain the purpose of their visit, and direct them to the appropriate location or person.
  • Answering Phone Calls: Receptionists handle incoming calls and provide information or assistance as needed. They may answer general inquiries, route calls to the appropriate staff members, or take messages accurately and relay them promptly.
  • Managing Front Desk Operations: School receptionists manage the front desk operations, ensuring that the reception area is clean, organized, and well-maintained. They may also manage the distribution and collection of various forms, documents, or packages.
  • Student and Staff Support: Receptionists support students and staff by answering questions, providing information, and assisting with administrative tasks. They may help students with schedules, attendance, or other general information inquiries. They may also assist staff members with administrative tasks, such as preparing documents or maintaining records.
  • Scheduling Appointments: School receptionists often schedule appointments for students, parents, and staff. They maintain an organized calendar, coordinate schedules, and ensure that appointments are properly scheduled and communicated.
  • Managing Incoming and Outgoing Mail: Receptionists receive and distribute incoming mail, packages, and deliveries. They may also handle outgoing mail, ensuring that it is properly labeled, sorted, and sent out in a timely manner.
  • Safety and Security: Receptionists play a crucial role in maintaining a safe and secure environment within the school. They monitor visitors, enforce security protocols, and ensure that individuals entering the premises adhere to school policies, such as signing in or obtaining visitor badges.
  • Data Entry and Record Keeping: School receptionists may maintain and update student and staff records in the school's administrative system. This may involve entering data accurately, organizing files, and retrieving information when needed.
  • Communication Liaison: Receptionists serve as a communication link between various stakeholders within the school. They may relay messages or information to teachers, administrators, or other staff members, ensuring effective communication throughout the school.
  • Miscellaneous Administrative Tasks: Depending on the school’s needs, receptionists may assist with various administrative tasks, such as preparing reports, managing inventory, ordering supplies, or assisting with event coordination. It's important to note that the specific job duties and responsibilities of a school receptionist may vary depending on the size of the school, administrative structure, and specific requirements of the position.
  • The School Receptionist also plays a role in helping students learn responsibility and independence, as well as providing a Christian role model for the students.

Important: The volunteer in this position will also participate in the “Rotation Program.” As part of this program, all volunteers are scheduled to support the Cafeteria Department one day per week.

Qualifications

  • Fluency in English
  • 1 year of college experience
  • Excellent good communication skills
  • Experience working in customer service
  • Flexible and Organized
  • The applicant must have good judgment and conflict management skills.
  • Must display strong interpersonal skills.
  • Punctual, reliable
  • Flexible in all situations in a boarding school setting, g.e.(helping one day a week at the Cafeteria deparment)
  • Reflect Christ's character to students through their lives and interactions

Attire

  • Acceptable Dress: Casual and modest, appropriate for a Christian school. Once you arrive, you may ask for the dress code for staff and volunteers.

Accommodations

  • Private living space with a private bathroom, daily meals

Living There

  • You will enjoy living by the beach and have the opportunity to visit different places when you get time off like:
  • San Francisco, Big Sur, MT Madonna, rivers or planning a stay to Yosemite with other volunteers
