Duties:     The position of Community Health Education Specialist develops and implements education courses that not only create opportunities of improvement for the underserved but also create opportunities for our partners to become further connected to SonBridge and its mission—creating a more positive and healthy Valley. In order to better evaluate the success of this position and related programs, periodic assessment of health services and programs by the Community Health Education Specialist will take place. They will assist in the SonBridge Dental Clinic evaluating care given and client satisfaction, increasing volunteerism, and partnering through recruitment and outreach strategies. To better work within SonBridge’s mission and vision, collaboration with SonBridge’s Executive Director, Program Director, Clinic Supervisor and Dental Director will be needed. This position of Community Health Education Specialist will play an important role in amplifying the effectiveness of the existing medical, dental, and social services; it will allow for expanding services and offering new and updated healthy living courses, thus improving the overall health and wellness of the Walla Walla Valley residents.

With this position, there will be frequent interaction with vulnerable populations, including children, elderly, domestic violence survivors and US Veterans. There will be times when the outdoors will be the setting a member will be serving in, and the team member will be expected to participate in programming and coordinating events.

While acting as the Community Health Education Specialist, key functions will include the following:
• Develop and implement assessment and referral tools
• Direct pre- and post-treatment calls, follow-ups, and surveys
• Plan and implement physical and mental health programming and curricula
• Coordinate programming and curricula with community partners and on-site partners to address health education areas that lack community awareness
• Recruit and direct volunteer teachers for health education classes
