The only place in the Bible where I find the words, "making a difference," is in the book of Jude, verses 21-23, where it says, "Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. And of some have compassion, making a difference: And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh." KJV
It is fascinating to me that these words are used in the setting of saving souls for God's kingdom. The writer appears to identify two kinds of individuals. First, we should show mercy to "some" as they struggle to understand the truth. Second, we are to rescue those "others" who can be saved-the others were probably the people who had already become involved in false teachings but who were not beyond help. Every effort should be made to snatch them from the fire of error, encouraging them at the same time to burn that leprous coat of sin. |

Jude is clearly addressing the believers of his day as well as the believers throughout the history of this earth. It seems to me therefore that this message is intended for those who are "called" to service-you and me!
You and I can make a difference! But we can only make a difference if we "keep ourselves in the love of God…and…have compassion..." There are in fact thousands of missionary volunteers all over the world who are making a difference right now. I pray that you will read this issue of Mission Post from cover to cover and as you catch a vision of what others are doing to make a difference in people's lives, that you will allow the Holy Spirit to work on your heart. I trust you will hear God's voice pleading with you to leave what you are doing and seek out the "some" and the "others" who are dabbling in apostasy or already in apostasy but who can still be saved. However, you may need to leave your comfort zone to make a difference!
"All who give evidence of true conversion should be encouraged to work for others…"Of some have compassion, making a difference." Jude 22. Those who are wise in the wisdom that comes from God will see souls in need of help… The Lord will put it into the hearts of His servants to welcome these trembling, repentant ones to their loving fellowship. Whatever may have been their besetting sins…He receives them. Then give them something to do for Him. If they desire to labor in uplifting others from the pit of destruction from which they themselves were rescued, give them opportunity. Bring them into association with
experienced Christians, that they may gain spiritual strength. Fill their hearts and hands with work for the Master." Ellen G White, Testimonies Vol. 2, pages 116, 117
With love and compassion, borne by the Holy Spirit, let's continue making a difference in people's lives until the Lord comes! |
