- Training, experience or qualifications
- Keen Interest in other cultures
- Ability to meet and make friends with people of other cultures
- Willingness to work under the leadership of an indigenous
person
- Ability to cope with isolation (some positions are in remote rural areas
with no other expatriates)
- Excellent physical and mental health (crucial)
- Cultural sensitivity
- Ability to learn and adapt
- Ability to cope with frustration and change.
- Ability to provide for much or all personal needs in a new setting
- Fluency in a specific language such as
French, Spanish, Portuguese
