getting ready > health tips > sample first aid kit

Maranatha Volunteers Int’l suggests the following items for a standard first aid kit on a short term mission project:
• Ace bandage strips
• Aloe Vera or anything with Benzocaine (for severe sunburn)
• Antibiotics (although expensive, Cipro is preferred because it covers the major dysentery pathogens, except amoebas, it preserves the “good guys” in the intestines, it is not sun sensitive like most antibiotics, and has few side effects.)
• Aspirin
• Band aids
• Bandages - telfa pads and tape
• Benadryl
• Cling tape (optional)
• Cotton balls
• Female hygiene items
• Hydrogen peroxide or Betadine (for sterlizing/cleaning)
• Insect repellant
• Motrin or Advil (for sore muscles)
• Needles (to clean out dirt and sand that gets scraped under skin)
• Pepto Bismol (for first stages of intestinal blow outs)
• Polysporin (the new stuff fights infection)
• Saline solution (for eye wash)
• Sore throat lozenges
• Steri-strips (optional)
• Sun screen (minimum of SPF 15; SPF 30-45 is preferred)

Plus Medications for:
Cold Medicines, Anti-Itch Medicines, Pain Medicines, Stomach Problems, Antibiotics (Note: allergies to occur), Water Safety
