being there > extending service

Often, volunteers and their supervisors wish the volunteer assignment to be extended beyond the initial approved term of service. Click here (Service Extension Request form) to download the request form. Following are the guidelines to keep in mind:
  • The responsibility to extend a volunteer’s term of service and insurance rests upon the volunteer and the Host Institution/Supervisor. Requests for extensions should be sent to the Host Division Volunteer Coordinator for approval and then forwarded to the GC Adventist Volunteer Center.
  • GC Insurance automatically expires at the end of the voted length of service, thus the Host Institution is responsible for any claims should it fail to request an extension for a volunteer.
  • A volunteer taking a break from service for more than two months shall be considered as beginning a new assignment rather than taking an extension.
  • A volunteer serving in excess of THREE years is required to sign a letter indicating that he/she does not have expectation of compensation for services normally offered to church employees, e.g. retirement benefits.
