When you are given a weekend off, or a break between school terms or projects, you will want to see the surrounding area. Its always best to travel with at least one other person; and some times having a local person as your guide will enrich the experience for you, as well as being helpful and giving you protection. (See "Safety Tips While Traveling" and "While on Assignment" under Getting Ready.

Before you set off, leave general details of your trip with your supervisor, such as destination, scheduled time of return, a phone number where you can be reached in case of emergency. Not only is this a courtesy to your hosts, but it could be most urgent for your safety.
